I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is still leaking, turn the water off at the nearest location and then at the mains valve outside. If you cannot find the water main valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on all the cold taps inside and out to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that’s sorted, give us a ring, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be with you promptly to fix the leak.

While waiting for the plumber to arrive, remove any significant possessions close to the leak, and wipe up any water or place a container to catch any drips. If you turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don�t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
