I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If you are unable to locate a tap to turn off, then you can try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside your house to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

While you wait for our emergency plumber to arrive, remove any important things, wipe up any water, and position a container to catch drips. You should also switch off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
